Simon Hughes-Johnson is a Senior Engineer with Bartley Consultants with over 12 years experience in the roading industry. Simon has had a significant involvement with the pavement design, development of drawings and specification preparation for pavements and surfacings on the NZTA Transmission Gulley and Huntly Bypass projects. Since 2011, Simon has also carried out the pavement rehabilitation designs for Fulton Hogan on their Road Corridor Maintenance Contract with Auckland Transport in west Auckland. Prior to joining Bartleys, Simon was involved as a pavement designer on a number of large infrastructure projects including the SH1 Newmarket Viaduct Replacement, DART 6 New Lynn Rail Trench, Central Connector and the SH20 Waterview Connection project. Early in his career, Simon spent three years in a civil engineering laboratory where he was the asphalt laboratory supervisor which entailed asphalt design, testing, supervision and training of staff. Other responsibilities in this role included research and development of asphalt and bitumen related products. He was also involved in site investigations such as Benkelman Beam, Scala Penetrometer, Nuclear Densometer, CBR and skid testing. Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree and a Master of Engineering.
